Let's get fashionably fit

The aerobic queen adorns a skin-tight spandex leotard, free-flowing and curly brown hair and has a perky voice that gets the engine running.

This mistress of cardio sporting the curve-hugging outfit, is none other than Richard Simmons - the epitome of terrible gym attire.

Simmons' love affair with Lycra tops the list for number of cringes received, but don't allow yourself to become near his ranking; especially in the Aztec Recreation Center, where you could meet your future ex-boyfriend or girlfriend.

Nevertheless, there's no need to fret or wonder what exactly qualifies as "proper" for exercising.

Here are some tips, similar to how Stacy London and Clinton Kelly of TLC's "What Not To Wear" advise guests on their show - the only difference being those taking the advice are being weaned away from wearing tacky muumuus and dresses dating back to 1900.

San Diego Dermatologist Voted Best Doctor In La Jolla Light's 2007 Reader's Poll

Being voted a Best Doctor means a lot to Dr. Susan Stuart, because it means that when it comes to skin care, the San Diego dermatologist is doing something right.

La Jolla, CA (PRWEB) November 8, 2007 -- The reality is Susan Stuart, M.D. didn't just do something right in 2007. She has a track record of doing everything right, beginning with her undergraduate education at Duke University where she was elected into Phi Beta Kappa, a prestigious academic honor bestowed upon but a small fraction of undergrads who achieve the highest standards of scholarship. She didn't stop there, going on to receive her M.D. from Tulane University School of Medicine. Success built upon success, and she soon completed a one-year dermatology research fellowship at San Diego's Mercy Hospital Medical Center.

Variety of dog shampoos available

THIS TIME OF YEAR as the holidays approach and many people have house guests, it's natural to want to clean up the dog as well. If you bathe your own pets at home, here are a few tips on special shampoos for dogs.

For many dogs with greasy skin, look for a shampoo with benzoyl peroxide as the active ingredient. This is the same medication used in many acne medications, and it helps kill bacteria and dissolves grease the best.

Shampoos containing these ingredients are OxyDex, Sulf-OxyDex, and Pyoben.

For dogs with flaky skin (dandruff), look for a shampoo with sulfur and salicylic acid as active ingredients. These help to dissolve loose flakes off the surface of the skin.

Be aware that, following a bath with these shampoos, some dogs may appear more flaky at first as a result of detaching dead flakes of skin that were soon to flake off anyway.

Bradley buyout spurns founder

European drugmaker Nycomed yesterday said it plans to acquire Bradley Pharmaceuticals for $346 million and take it private, thwarting a similar bid by Bradley's founder.

News of the $20-a-share offer for the Fairfield-based specialty pharmaceutical company sent shares of Bradley up more than 22 percent by the close of regular trading. The deal represented a 25 percent premium to Bradley's closing price Monday, but was less than the $21.50 a share the company's chief executive, Daniel Glassman, offered in May.

Glassman founded the company in 1985, naming it after his son, who now works as a sales executive in the business. But Glassman's control of the company weakened last year, when a Boston hedge fund launched a proxy fight that led to a number of concessions, including changes in the composition of the board of directors.

Katie Leslie In Good Health — Unhappy with your Medicare prescription plan?

Just the thought of Medicare's prescription drug program elicits a groan. When the new "Part D" program was unveiled in 2006, I reported on seniors struggling to navigate the system to find the program right for them.

Undoubtedly, not everyone was successful. That's why Medicare holds an open enrollment each year to allow seniors to switch plans. Take note: the next enrollment period will be Nov. 15 through Dec. 31.

Any changes made will be enacted Jan. 1 and can't be changed until next year.

Not sure how to decide? The Frederick County Department of Aging suggests seniors consider their premium and cost changes (if any) in 2008, whether they will need more coverage, if their drugs will continue to be covered, or quite simply, if they are happy with their plans' customer service.
