| Drug Slows Prostate Tumor Growth By Keeping Vitamin A Active
A novel compound that blocks the breakdown of retinoic acid, derived from vitamin A, is a surprisingly effective and "promiscuous" agent in treating animal models of human prostate cancer, say investigators from the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). .
Feeling stressed? Your skin and hair can show it
Feeling stressed? Your skin, hair and nails can show it as they're the external indicators. While everyone knows that stress can take a toll on a person physically and psychologically, researchers in the United States have carried out a study and found that it also can lead to dermatological problems, like acne, brittle nails or even hair loss, the ScienceDaily reported. "When a person becomes stressed, the level of the body's stress hormone (cortisol) rises. This in turn causes an increase in oil production, which can lead to oily skin, acne and other related skin problems. "Stress can aggravate the skin and trigger unexpected flare-ups that, in effect, create more stress for patients," lead researcher Dr Flor A. Mayoral of the University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine was quoted as saying.

Strictly for the boys
Rarely do I see a man at Washington University make an effort in what he wears for the purpose of impressing his buddies; most attempts to look done-up are designed to impress the ladies. It would seem, then, that what a man wears at Wash. U. should be somewhat based on women's opinions. I approached some ladies of Wash. U. with an all-important question: "If you had to tell a guy to invest in a good ____, what would it be?" The answer was almost always a good pair of jeans or a nice pair of sneakers. Therein is the basic foundation for a successful, urban campus wardrobe. So how do you go about buying the perfect pair of jeans? As silly as it seems, you must understand denim to understand how the style would fit on your body. Men's jeans come in four types of fits: bootcut, straight-leg, relaxed and slim.
By Keeping Vitamin A Active Drug Slows Prostate Tumor Growth
A novel compound that blocks the breakdown of retinoic acid, derived from vitamin A, is a surprisingly effective and "promiscuous" agent in treating animal models of human prostate cancer, say investigators from the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). Daily injections of the agent VN/14-1 resulted in up to a 50 percent decrease in tumor volume in mice implanted with human prostate cancer cells, reported Aakanksha Khandelwal, Ph.D., at the American Association for Cancer Research Centennial Conference on Translational Cancer Medicine. No further tumor growth was seen during the five-week study, Khandelwal reports. Importantly, VN/14-1 exerted its effects in multiple ways, which is the hallmark of a so-called promiscuous drug, according to the study's senior investigator, Vincent C.O.
Micro Fractional CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing -- the Hottest Breakthrough in Resurfacing Technology
Mixto Microresurfacing trumps other laser technology with its immediate, deep yet lasting rejuvenation and skin resurfacing skin effects. Singapore (PRWEB) November 2, 2007 -- The hottest new cosmetic laser of the 2007 is also the coolest. Mixto Microresurfacing laser is the latest innovation in micro-fractional technology. It cleverly allows the skin to be treated with the most advanced laser technology for maximal impact and yet experience the least risk of injury, side effects and downtime. Unlike traditional CO2 and other laser resurfacing technology, Mixto Microresurfacing combines a state-of-the-art fractional C02 technology and a computer scanner that increases time between adjacent pulses. What this means is that the gold standard CO2 laser is delivered in microlaser pulses in a manner like a "laser airbrush" effect.
